The 10-minute evening reset

I used to blame my mornings. Turns out the problem started the night before.

For years, my mornings were chaos. Lost keys, a sink full of dishes, a to-do list that existed only as a vague sense of dread. I tried waking up earlier. I tried morning routines from people with very different lives than mine. Nothing stuck.

Then a friend said something that rearranged my brain:

“Your morning is just the last part of your evening.”

The idea

Instead of fixing the morning, set it up the night before. Ten minutes. Same steps every night. That’s it.

The trick isn’t discipline. It’s that ten minutes is too short to argue with. Even on my laziest nights, I can do anything for ten minutes.

My ten minutes

Here’s the exact list I use. Feel free to steal it, and tick things off as you go. It remembers your progress.

Tonight's reset

Why it works

Every item on that list removes one decision from tomorrow morning. And decisions, it turns out, are what make mornings feel heavy. Not the tasks themselves.

The part nobody tells you

Which step made the biggest difference?

The phone. By far. Charging it outside the bedroom meant I stopped scrolling in bed, slept better, and stopped starting my day with other people’s problems. Everything else was a bonus.

It’s been eight months now. My mornings still aren’t perfect. But they start calm, and that changes the whole day.

Try it tonight. Just ten minutes.
